Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I am so Grateful for my many many blessings. They are far more than I can count on one blog post and probably more than anyone would want to hear about. Like most I am grateful for my family, friends and for Jesus Christ and His Atonement. My life has been filled with so many of His tender mercies and am so Grateful for His love & forgiveness in my life. I am so blind and it is that love that guides me through my life and fills me with Joy.
I have been feeling nostalgic this year of our days in Ann Arbor and all the wonderful memories we made there. This is a video of our first Thanksgiving there. Our Turkey took over 7 hours to cook (we couldn't figure out why) and so we were just killing time. My dad drove down from Pittsburgh to spend it with us. I have had this video for some time but this is the first Thanksgiving that I have actually allowed myself to watch it.
If you are not aware, this Christmas will be five years that my dad died from Lung Cancer. In this video he was sick but he did not know yet. His breath was shallow and his leg swollen but he was diagnosed with phlebitis in his leg and a chest cold by his local practicioner. After his symptoms became increasingly worse they did further tests and he was diagnosed with cancer on December 8th and died just 2 1/2 weeks later. It was a brief battle but another evidence of the Lord's tender mercies, as he did not suffer long. It made me so happy to watch this video and feel so Grateful that I got to spend so much time and share his last Thanksgiving with him just before he died. So... I share this video, which is a tender mercy to me, with you this Thanksgiving Day.
Much Love,
Emily

What a treasure that you have this! I'm grateful for your kindness and love! Thanks for sharing.
And Weston is still in denial of his hair loss? This is cold hard proof...:)

So, so sweet. Thanks for sharing.
It was fun to see your apartment too and remember the cramped quarters of yesteryear.
I also enjoyed you trying to get everyone to chime in. That's how it always is when I am videoing.
Did you ever figure out why the turkey took so long? No doubt it was the AWESOME ovens that came with our high-tech apartments. ;)
Love you!
That is awesome that you have that video of your dad. I think I knew that your dad died but I'm not sure. I love how WEston was like I'm watching football leave me along:)))
I was crying before I even watched the video. I'm so glad you were able to spend that time with your dad before he died. I miss our Thanksgivings too! Weston looks so young - holy cow!
Oh - and I was remembering you guys being so late getting over to our place because of the turkey taking forever. I'm guessing you put it in frozen, eh? (:
We will be around for Christmas, what about you folks?
D- I still have more hair than you.-FLF
P- Still not exactly sure why it took so long to cook. Probably the "fine piece of machinery" (as Weston commented)and the amount of food cooked that day were to blame... but whatever the reason I am Grateful because otherwise I wouldn't have had the time or thought to capture this video. ;)
S- We were laughing at this video later because of Weston. He had a little bit of the grumpy pants going on because he was so hungry and then I kept bugging him with the camera...and the Christmas music just did him in. He he
C- Crap...you mean you are supposed to thaw the turkey before cooking it???? ;) We will be here for Christmas too. Maybe you guys could come for a visit shortly thereafter like New Years or somefin. We could have a serious party. Warren has been dying to show Jake and Andrew his "game room"....and at 1.50 a gallon you'd be crazy not to come....
you're at $1.50!?! Lovin' life. We just dropped to 1.70, but still....looks like a trip would definitely be in order!

I loved that blog. Man, what a neat thing to have your dad on video. He seemed so nice. I can't imagine how much pain he was in at that time and he didn't even seem like it. What a tender mercy. I can't believe that was 5 years ago, but then Luke is 5 and a half so I guess it was. Love the reminder of the apartment, it was like I was there in the video. I miss those "good ol' days". PS. I love Weston stroking his belly. HA

OH, and I want to come to your New Years Party. We need to start planning our girls weekend come to think of it!
Thanks for sharing Emily.
